Right now I'm totally loving this band called Beirut. Led by indie darling Zach Condon, the band takes much of its musical influence from old French chansons and music from Eastern Europe. If you like folksy indie rock with a hint of Old World flavor, than may also like Beirut. I have yet to hear their first album Gulag Orkestar, but lately I've been enchanted by their newest album, The Flying Club Cup. You can buy the CD/listen to music samples here.
If you really like their music, then head over to flyingclubcup.com, where there are live videos of Beirut performing songs from their latest album. You can also buy the DVD there, if you're interested. Need more proof of Beirut's greatness? Natalie "the Shins will change your life" Portman has endorsed them as part of her latest charity product, an indie rock compilation that will benefit FINCA, a prominent micro-finance nonprofit organization.
Below is a live performance of Beirut's "A Sunday Smile."
